The existing 40-ft pedestrian bridge was badly corroded and deteriorated beyond repair.  Load rating had revealed that the bridge load carrying capacity was less than 2 tons and the bridge was closed to traffic. The City had limited budget and did not want to go through the environmental review and permitting requirements for a complete replacement structure. JMEC's solution was to replace the existing bridge with a new stronger steel truss and reused the existing bridge abutments.

JMEC has performed structural inspection and evaluation per CBC 2013 and AASHTO LRFD Guide Specifications for the Design of Pedestrian Bridges to ensure that the existing bridge abutments can support the new bridge.  JMEC reviewed shop drawings and provided structural observation during bridge lifting.  The new pedestrian bridge has a vehicular load limit of 10 tons in order to suit the existing foundation capacity.
